This is part 2 of sharing on my recent trip to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve (BTNR) on 21 March. The main observation was the abundant varieties of flowers, fruits and seeds that littered the forest floor in different areas. In a densely populated forest where the canopy was sheltered with tall trees, these fallen gems provided some clues of the identity the trees. At least half of them were foreign to me.

While staring at this panel of beautiful fallen gems seen on this trip, I suddenly got an urge to consolidate a new section in my website that focus on them. This was swiftly put to action --- a new web page was created.

The last time that I saw large quantities of fallen gems at BTNR was in July 2009. As shown below, they were all fruits or rather winged seeds from the tall trees with 4 of them being Dipterocarps. This massive fruiting of the tall trees every few years has a term to it ---- masting.
